(Charles Town, WV)   Charles Town star and leading West Virginia bred Russell Road returns to the track for his first race since last November to headline a strong field of 11 in the $50,000 Confucius Say Stakes at Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races.

The race, a seven-furlong event for West Virginia-breds, 3-years-old and up, is on the undercard of the Grade 3, $1 million Charles Town Classic.

Russell Road, a 5-year-old gelded son of Wheaton trained by James W. Casey, has won 15 races in his career, an incredible 14 of them at Charles Town. His last stakes victory came in the Springtime Handicap, at the track and same distance as the Confucius Say, 364 days ago.

Russell Road will be coupled in an entry with another Casey runner, Colonel J W, who is 8 for 18 lifetime at Charles Town and coming off a close-up fourth-place finish at the track to the very tough Luckifee.

Son of a Bear, a multiple stakes winner at the track trained by Debra Ketterman, figures to provide the principal opposition to the entry. The 4-year-old gelded son of Bowman’s Band has been away from the races since last October.

Tup Take’ Please, owned and trained by Carlos McDaniel, also is a threat, having won four of his past six starts.

The rest of the field is Green Spring Boy, Peaceful Bliss, All Myself, Rummy’s Command, Confederate Silver, Lively Reparations and Pagan Cat.
