Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races Presents the Second Annual

(Charles Town, WV) — For the second year in a row, Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races is partnering with the West Virginia affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure Foundation to present the “Race for the Ribbon” on September 18, 2010 to benefit breast cancer research.  The “Race for the Ribbon” along with a showcase of ten other races will total over $750,000 in purses for the day.  Proceeds from a special breast cancer walk on the race track and other events will be donated to the Susan G. Komen— WV Affiliate.


Each $25 donation made by participants of the breast cancer walk will come with a commemorative t-shirt.  T-shirts will also be available for sale trackside for $10, or can be purchased with a racing program for $11.  Additionally, a pink lemonade stand, silent auction, and pink hat contest will be held on property.  The patron judged to be wearing the best pink hat will be awarded a cash prize of $500. Second and third place prizes will also we awarded. Author and former groom Michael Price, a breast cancer survivor; will be on hand to do a signing for his book “The Story of Storm Cat”. 


The night of racing will include the $75,000 Pink Ribbon race for fillies and mares and will be punctuated by the second running of the $400,000 Charles Town Oaks for three-year-old fillies – now the richest sprint for three-year-old fillies in the country. 

The events on September 18th will include:

  • 10:30am - Registration for the walk around the track
  • 12:00pm – Walk around the track (weather permitting) 
  • 5:00pm – Start of silent auction
  • 6:00pm – Post time for the 1st race
  • 8:00pm – Judging for pink hat contest, with $500 prize to the winner
  • 9:00pm – The $75,000 Pink Ribbon race for fillies & mares
  • 10:30pm – The $400,000 Charles Town Oaks

  • Charles Town Oaks, $400,000, 3yo fillies, 7 furlongs
  • Miss Shenandoah, $100,000, 2yo fillies, 4 ½ furlongs
  • The Charles Town Juvenile, $100,000, 2yo, 7 furlongs
  • The Pink Ribbon, $75,000, 3&up, fillies & mares, 7 furlongs
