Black Belt Rallies to Take Coin Collector

coin-collector-2010
(Charles Town, WV) - Black Belt, who appeared hopelessly beaten at the 1/16th pole, made up nearly four lengths in the final half-furlong to nip odds-on favorite Taylor's Flight in tonight's $50,000 Coin Collector Stakes.

Black Belt, sent off as the 3.30 to 1 second choice in the field of six for trainer Gerald Bennett, was making his first start in West Virginia-bred company in his 13 race career.

Taylor's Flight, who suffered his first defeat in 4 career starts under jockey Rodney Soodeen, lead from the break and opened up a 5 length lead turning for home. While Taylor's Flight looked to be home free well within the 1/8th pole, Black Belt jockey Dale Beckner began cutting into the lead in the final strides before prevailing by a short neck. Black Belt stopped the timer in 52:02 for the 4 1/2 furlong Coin Collector.

Fuzzywuzzywuzabear checked in third, 7 1/2 lengths behind Taylor's Flight. Silver Pioneer, Flaming Tap and Get Glued On completed the order of finish.
