$500,000 Classic Anchors West Virginia Breeders’ Classic Lineup
August 11, 2010

(Charles Town, WV) – The $500,000 West Virginia Breeders’ Classic will once again highlight an all-stakes card when the 24th annual West Virginia Breeders’ Classics is held at Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races on October 16th.  All told, nine stakes, worth nearly $1.3 million in total, will comprise the Breeders’ Classics card.

The $500,000 Breeders’ Classic will be backstopped by the $250,000 Cavada, a seven furlong test for fillies and mares, and seven additional stakes, each carrying a $75,000 purse.

“The West Virginia Breeders’ Classics is always a great showcase for the breeding industry in West Virginia,” said Carol Holden, President of West Virginia Breeders’ Classics, Ltd.  “We look forward to another great night of racing at Charles Town.”

This year’s Breeders’ Classic is expected to include defending champion Russell Road, who took the race by 8 lengths in 2009.  Ghostly Thunder could make it a matchup of the past two winners of the race should he start in the Breeders’ Classic.  Ghostly Thunder posted an allowance win on July 16th, which marked his first trip to the winners’ circle since the 2008 Breeders’ Classic.

West Virginia Breeders’ Classics XXIV will once again be aired live during a thirty-minute broadcast on Comcast SportsNet, with a replay on Fox Sports affiliates the following morning.  Additionally, HRTV™ will provide live, in-studio coverage of the entire Breeders’ Classics card as it has done the previous two years.

Post time for the first race on October 16 will be 7:15pm EST.
